Created as a tribute to Tahlequah (J35), this piece honors one of the most recognized members of the endangered Southern Resident J-Pod. Her extraordinary displays of grief in 2018 and again after the loss of J61 in the winter of 2024–2025 brought worldwide attention to the emotional depth of orcas and the uncertain future of her family. Built entirely in ballpoint pen, the layered black marks give the pair a quiet weight—an image of connection, resilience, and the enduring bonds at the heart of Pacific Northwest waters.
